Why violet is the one colour where power really counts
On every other page in this range we suggest starting at 50mW. Violet is the exception, and there is a reason for it. The human eye is dramatically less sensitive at the violet end of the spectrum than it is to green, so a violet laser has to work considerably harder to produce the same visual impression. At 50mW a violet unit gives you a clear dot and a subtle beam. At 200mW you get the effect people are actually buying violet for. That is what the £89.99 pays for, and it is why this is the one place in the range where we would talk you up rather than down.

Bought for the beam, not the dot
Most of our professional customers buy a laser to point at something. Violet buyers usually do not. This unit goes into display and installation work, photography and film, stage and event production, and specialist demonstration work, where the visible line of light travelling through the air is the product and the target is irrelevant. In a dark space, or wherever there is haze in the air, a 200mW violet beam is genuinely striking in a way that no other colour reproduces.
