A beam colour you rarely see
Ask most people to picture a laser pointer and they will picture a red dot, or perhaps a green one. The Emax purple laser pointer works at 405nm, right down at the violet end of the visible spectrum, close to the point where visible light gives way to ultraviolet. That position gives the beam its distinctive deep violet character, and it is the reason this model gets bought for reasons that have nothing to do with presenting.
Who buys a violet pointer
Collectors and laser enthusiasts buy it because they already own the green and the red and want the set completed. Photographers and content creators buy it for light-painting and long-exposure work, where a violet trail reads very differently from the usual red or green streak. It also makes an unusual gift for someone who thinks they have every gadget going.
An honest word on brightness
Because 405nm sits near the boundary of human vision, the eye is far less sensitive to it than it is to green light. A violet beam will therefore look dimmer than a green beam even where the output is comparable, and the dot on the wall is the easiest part to see. Buy this one for the colour and the novelty, not as a replacement for a green pointer in a large lecture hall.
Power and handling
The pen takes two AAA batteries, supplied in the box, and they are simple to swap when they run down.

Wonderful laser. It even has a black-light effect.

I already had a green laser and that one is really good. The violet one is a bit of a letdown because it does not reach as far, but at 2000 metres it still does the job. Good service and reliable.
