From a dot to a stripe

Most laser pointers put a single point of light on the target. This one spreads the beam into a continuous red line. How long that line is depends entirely on where you stand: closer to the surface gives a short, tight line, further back gives a longer one. That makes it easy to size the line to the job just by moving your hand.

Where a line beats a dot

A dot tells someone where to look. A line tells them where something runs. That distinction matters when you are showing an edge, a boundary, a route across a floor or the alignment of one thing against another. Because the whole unit fits in a pocket and needs nothing but batteries, it can be pulled out for a two-minute task and put away again, which is not true of tripod-mounted line equipment.

Red or green?

We stock this line laser in both colours at the same price. Red is the one to buy for indoor use, where lighting is under control and the line only has to be visible across a room. The green version is the better choice for outdoor and daytime work, since the eye picks green out far more readily in bright conditions. If your work is entirely inside, the red saves you nothing but does everything you need.

Nothing to charge

Two AAA batteries power the unit and are supplied with it. When they run flat, replacements are available in any corner shop, which is a genuine advantage over a sealed rechargeable unit that goes dead mid-job.
