Five caps, twenty patterns

This is the Emax green pointer with a set of five interchangeable heads. Twist the converter head, drop on a different cap, and the beam changes from a single dot to a projected pattern; across the five caps you get twenty variations in total. Swapping takes a couple of seconds and needs no tools.

What people actually use the caps for

The pattern caps turn a presenting tool into a party piece. Aimed at a ceiling or a bare wall in a darkened room, the patterns cover a surprising area, which makes this a cheap way to add something visual to a birthday, a house party or a garden gathering. Take the caps off and you are back to a plain green dot for pointing at a projection screen, a wall chart or something on the far side of a workshop.

The same green beam underneath

Underneath the caps this is the standard Emax green laser, working at 532nm with a quoted range of 4,000 to 4,500 metres. Green remains the colour the eye picks up most readily, which is why the projected patterns hold up so well against a pale wall.

Pocket-sized, and it stores properly

The pen is light enough to carry in a jacket pocket or a laptop bag, and the supplied case keeps the five caps together rather than scattered in a drawer. Two AAA batteries are included.

    I have ordered the other laser, the one without the caps, twice before. The first arrived broken, which I only found out later; the second did not, but the batteries were flat within an hour. Lithium batteries did work well, but they are very expensive.

    Fun thing, it is just a shame that one of the caps was broken when it arrived. It might be an idea to put the pointers in a slightly bigger parcel so they do not fit through the letterbox.

    The laser is great, and so are the caps. In the evening the laser is clearly visible, as long as it is fully charged. The battery does run down quickly, but that is not surprising given that it takes two AAA batteries. From where I live I can easily shine towards Belgium, which is about two kilometres away. Top laser.

    This laser is really strong. With the caps I can put on laser shows. The casing is very sturdy too, so the laser inside is less likely to break. I give it a ten and then some.

    I ordered this laser and paid by bank transfer, and it was delivered on time. I also got proper emails when the payment came in and when the laser was shipped. The laser was well packed in a box and a bubble envelope. The laser itself works excellently and the caps are great fun. As far as this order goes, I am satisfied.
